First things first: Amazing app!
You should really do some cooperation with home theater enthusiasts around the net for making this app best of bread.
First, My movies. I' ve 5 external disks with 7TB of storage it s real pain for browsing movies in iPad. With integration you can implement some features more easily like; search for movies instead of browsing, ratings, movie info, no need to add lots of directories etc..
Second, DVBLink. It may not be easy to on-the-fly conversion of 7MC Live Tv but you may have some leverage with Dvblogic. dvblogic broadcasts all guide channels with UPNP or their propriety network server/tuner. it might be more easy to encode UPNP streams with ffmpeg. (it may require more CPU power for broadcast channels because of interlaced video but anyway some of us may have enough computing power this)
Thanks for the great app!

Dear airvideo developers,
First of all, thank you for the fantastic job with is app— it's changed how I consume my media.
From looking at some of the forum posts, I can see that some users are asking for plex/xbmc support.
I'm sure you've heard of these media center apps.
Xbmc was the original open source project that turns your xbox into a media center and plex is the mac-specific fork of this project.
Xbmc.org
plexapp.com
Plex is in active development and is currently testing some very advanced features for the next release.
Being open source, it uses open standards for media library organization.
One killer feature is that plex scans the user-input paths on an HDD and pulls in metadata from imdb and tvdb for poster art, synopses, ratings and cast.
This allows plex to present this data in a visually rich, 10 foot tv interface that bests front row.
I have all my media archived in my plex setup and navigating folders thru airvideo works well but is lacking in metadata.
Since plex presents this data as simple XML (with posters and fan art on disk), it is not very complicated to leverage this existing data to present the media more accessibly.
The plex media server is very robust and very extensible.
It would not be too complicated IMHO to get the plex server and the airVideo server to talk.
Why don't you look into it?
A lot of users I personally know want this very badly.
I'd appreciate a response
And i could put you in touch with the plex development team.
Thanks again for the phenomenal work.

The biggest problem here is time and resources. We get huge amount of feature requests and we have to prioritize things.

Understood.
There's more important things to take care of...
We'll be happy if you guys decide to bake this kinda functionality in.
Thanks for the prompt response.
Keep up the fantastic work

I will add another vote for the ability to download converted videos (or original videos for that matter) for later viewing. This is HUGE hole in the iPhone/iPad/iTouch story right now. There is no good way to load video content onto your iPhone without a computer. Many of the other features that I've seen so far are "nice to haves." Adding "download to cache" and allowing users to view content offline would open up a whole new market. It would allow people to swap out video content without having a laptop.
Considering there is NO other good way to do this I would pay $9.99 for the app instead of the $2.99. Obviously if there was another app like this, that price would drop to more like $4.99. But still...
I can't imagine I'm alone here.

There's a lot of text to go through in this thread, but I have a couple of very simple and useful suggestions.
I have about 4TB worth of HD videos in h.264 mkv containers stored on my WHS. They are all stored in one giant share folder. On my client PCs, the way I find and view videos is by arranging the folder by date. This way I can see the most recently downloaded videos and will automatically know which videos I need to watch. This is in my opinion, the only major feature missing in Air Video for iPad. We need to be able to arrange by "Date". Search functionality would be amazing in fact if you can build in a switch to either index or not to index... but without search, the only other way I can see myself using this APP is if filter by DATE is available. Thanks.

I'd like to add an additional request for the ability to remotely shut down the system running the server. That would make watching videos before bed much more convenient.
absolutely love this app, I've been telling everyone this is the one app they MUST buy.

I'd love the option to "Convert & add to iTunes" all in one - as opposed to having to manually add to iTunes after conversion has finished.
I have quite a large video directory structure and it's easy to forget which files I've asked to convert, especially as the AirVideo app doesn't have a centralised list of converted files.
So it would be nice if converted files could be added automatically to iTunes (if required), rather than having to traverse through my directory structure managing individual files as I go...
Alternatively, a centralised list of all converted files would be quite handy!

I'm sure I'm not the first person to ask for this, but I would very much appreciate direct support for DVD rips (specifically VIDEO_TS folders/VOBS). I realize dealing with DVD menus and all of the branching involved would be a stretch for the current operating paradigm, but if you could stream the primary track (the movie) that would be great.
Thanks for a great app,
Mark

My wish list...
1. Being able to delete the original file on the server. If security is a concern, then move the 'deleted' files to a secured folder for later deletion on the server.
2. Subtitle and closed-caption support.
3. One-click skip-aheads of 10 sec., 30 sec. or both.
4. The ability to do format conversion and display of video files stored on the iPad.

for me right now, Air Video is 99% perfect
the only thing I'd love to be able to do, is re-stream my capture card
I bought a Hava with the intentions of it replacing my Locationfree + PSP combo to stream live TV (obviously now to my ipod rather than the psp)
the hava mobile app sucks donkey balls
the air video quality is a billion times better (literally actually)
being able to simply view what's on the capture card would be fantastic

Another vote for caching videos onto the iPad/iPod. At the moment the local hotel wifi just cant keep a good enough connection for long enough for me to be able to use this anywhere except at home
I realize playing divx probably isn't possible as it looks like you are using the server to convert to an iPod format. But i'd be more than happy for it to just support transferring of compatible videos - I can always use live convert and wait a while for any other formats.
With the new app file storage on iPad this should be possible.
