Thanks so much for adding subtitle support for your next release.

Hey lovely app.

Feature request:

- Subtitles, automatic selection for near *.srt file, or file inside near Subtitle folder. I.e. movie is Main Feature.avi, subtitles file is Main Feature English.srt or Subtitles/Main Feature English.srt

- User accounts, either use the same as the computer or the ability to create more then one user name/password. Also access control of each account, like, only one/two/three simultaneous connection for this account.

- UI speed improvements. Sometime the folder list is a little slow. Like showing the amount of files inside folders would be nice to disable if that is something that takes cpu.

- Remember server password. It is annoying that you have to type your password each time you access your server.

- Deafult Server. I only have one server listed, and it would be nice if i could go directly to the shared list.

- Alpabetic scroll listing like in the iPhone Adress Book. Click on K and you scroll to folders starting with K etc...

Keep up the good work, this is the best app in a long long time ;o)

Subtitles are #1 priority as far new features are concerned.

Displaying number of items in folder should not affect scrolling speed in any way. It's loaded asynchronously. Scrolling is slower because of thumbnails, we are looking for ways to improve the speed.

Password should be remembered (you can disable this in Air Video settings). However because of a bug in iPhone SDK Air Video sometimes doesn't remember the password even if it should. We've reported this to Apple.

I just disabled and the enabled "Store Passwords" under settings and now it works! It remembers my password! ;o)

Hello Admin,

I am curious as to the ability to add audio streaming to your App or for you to create a separate App (i.e. - for streaming of music)? Since your App, in essence, already streams audio (i.e. - obviously audio is streamed with the video), would it be a major undertaking for you to add the ability to stream only audio? I know there are other Apps that already provide this functionality. However, I believe your App is by far the best App for streaming video and it would be great to have audio as another feature or provided within a separate App ("Air Audio" or "Air Music"?).

Thank you for your consideration.

Hi,
First of all I would like to give U guys some cred! It's a great app that keeps getting better by the day.
I have some feature request/improvements if you could find the time.

  • Live conversion on the fly regardless if the file size changed from the point it starts to convert
By this approach there is no need to restart the stream watching a time shifted file from your TV-card.

  • Ability to set a custom path where to save the converted files

  • Coverflow or other eyecandy mode for viewing files and albums

  • Ability to set custom server to log in to / or skip single choice

  • Thanks for your time and effort that been put in to this app!

    / Sparhawk

I must say I am extremely impressed with Air Video, for the price it does 80% of what I was hoping it would. The only 20% is that it doesn't play VOB files. I noticed from other posts on the forums that the admin/author indicated it likely wouldn't be added but I do hope that decision is reconsidered. When I archive my DVDs to VOB form I do it such that there are no chapter/scene selection considerations etc. Technically I believe this should be possible as I use a program called PS3MediaServer to stream and convert on the fly VOB files to a format my PS3 can playback. From my understanding a VOB file is a container for a mpeg-2 file so if Air Video can play mpeg-2 (which I know i can as that is how I play back my PVRd TV shows on my Touch), I think getting simple, single file VOBs to play through Air Video should be doable.

I tried renaming my VOB files to .avi and .mpg but still couldn't get get Air Video to admit it could play the file, it just says the file needs to be converted.

Outside of the above feature request (maybe I am begging!) this software is great, very professional and very polished.

One quick question though: When I start it up, it needs to connect to the internet to generate a PIN before my iPod can find the server - is that intentional? Usually I firewall off all programs from internet access unless there is a reason to let them connect.

Thanks again! I've got to check if the author has written anything else.

Sorry, one last feature request: It would be great if the video info window (which shows the title and duration) could also show the Modified Date of the video file as per the server. That would help me determine what TV show I am playing (older versus newer episode).
    Thanks!!

Thank you for an absolutely fantastic app. With this and Stanza I have all my video and book reading nailed.

Two quick things (quick to ask for anyway)

    1. As has been suggested, having multiple logins would be awesome. I want my kids to also be able to watch their shows but obviously don't want them being able to access grown up tv.
If, in the PC/mac server app side of things, you could create a user, specify a password and then tick which shares are available to that user, that would be sensational.

    2. Im not sure if this has been asked, or how difficult it would be, but could the server app query imdb etc and store a brief plot outline and a movie poster/banner for the media you have.
Similar to media portal and store all the text/jpegs in a folder in the install directory of the app.

Anyway, I have to say this is the best app on my ipod and myself and my mates think you've done a wonderful job.

Keep it up, Im loving it !

Hello I just want to say I love the app (especially the live conversion feature).

I just have one feature request. I would really like the ability to shut down, sleep, and wake the computer, right from the iPhone/iPod Touch. Please. Because after you have finished watching a video it would be handy to shut down or put the computer to sleep (and wake it back up again when needed).

I have seen other apps on the App Store (not video streaming ones) that offer this feature but it would be very convenient if Air Video could offer this as well, so it is all in the one app.

Once again thanks for the great App!!

I'm not sure how hard it would be to implement but implementing a simple photo viewer would be awesome. If possible the photos could be viewed in high resolution to allow for zooming etc.

Also remote shut down of your computer would be a good addition as well

One other thing I thought of last night.
With the function of touch the screen to bring up DONE button and the Pause button, options etc.....
Could you have it like stanza and have the middle third of the screen do that function ?
The the left and right thirds could be a Skip function.
Either in the ipod app or on the server software you could specify the amount of second the video would skip forward or backward, depending on which side of the screen you tapped.
I know every time you do it would have to rebuffer but it could be a very useful function to skip ads or intro credits...
    Just a thought. Cheers

I know this would be harder to do, but being able to dynamically adjust the bitrate based on network conditions like slingplayer does would be an epic feature. Mabye even implement apple's http streaming to deal with that, since so far nobody has come out with a media sharing software that fully supports sharing media with that protocol.

Also, add a vote from me for the volume boost, I watch videos on the metro so sometimes it can be quite loud.

A feature worth paying for is the ability for the apps to convert and download into the iphone for viewing offline!
