Ok, 2.1.7 is working without any problems.

Well, I'm afraid that's not really ok. We have already submitted client update and the new client will require 2.2.0.
It is possible that the new ffmpeg build chokes on your files during thumbnail generation. That would explain the hanging processes. Air Video Server limits the number of ffmpeg processed spawned during thumbnail generation to 3. Those 3 processes taking 100% cpu would cause problems during live conversion, as the CPU would not have enough cycles left to perform it smoothly.

That said, the new build was tested with a lot of mkv files and so far I haven't been able to reproduce the behavior you are describing :-| Will keep trying though.

I have a feeling that certain movie files (e.g. my Chicken Run rip) are somehow affecting the server and causing it to use 100% of the CPU (even when the phone is off) - as a result when I connect to it I can't do a live conversion as there is not enough processing power.

Is there a way to prevent the server from leaking like this?

E.g. If I were to open Chicken Run (and it won't open), until I restart the computer or use the task manager my CPU load will be at 100%. Would it be possible for you have to the process end when the client closes the movie file?

Maybe the new client will fix this?

Should I try running it under compatibility mode for win vista/xp?

Well, the problem here is that the server is not really leaking. The ffmpeg process is trying to generate thumbnail for it, but for some reason fails. Is there any chance that you would be able to reproduce this with a smaller file (say < 500MB)? We could build a workaround where the thumbnail generation process would be killed after certain timeout, but that doesn't really fix the problem.

The client doesn't do anything with the file until your play it. It's the server that triggers generation of thumbnails (which seems to fail on BD Chicken Run resulting in ffmpeg.exe processes taking 100% of your cpu).

I think it may have been just that one movie. After the 250 thumbnails were updated that one refused to update and after I clicked on it my PC's CPU would go to 100% and not come back. I have moved it to a different location and haven't had a problem so far.

I see. In that case maybe it would help to kill the thumbnail generation process after certain timeout and mark the file as invalid.

Same problem here. Server 2.2 running on Mac Mini C2D 2.0GHz, Mac OS X 10.5.8. Everything worked fine with previous server version. I have a folder with 13files (175MB XviD AVI each), all thumbnails generate OK, when I start playing one of them with live conversion (medium quality) I get an pop-up information that the server is probably not fast enough, and the server machine freezes, totally overloaded, I have to hard reset it.

Are you sure it was caused by Air Video? Aren't there any other processes running? ffmpeg process can be quite demanding but definitely not to the point where you need to hard reset the computer. Were you able to see the thumbnails inside the folder?

Yes, I was able to see the thumbnails OK.
Yes, I am sure it is caused by Airvideo server. I have nothing else running on the machine. It took 15 minutes to start Activity monitor, I can see process ffmpeg using only 3% CPU but 15GB virtual memory! Process AirVideoServer is using 0.2% CPU and 1.13GB virtual memory. The MacMini has only 1GB physical memory, everything was OK with previous version of Airvideo server.

That looks like a memory leak in ffmpeg. Does it happen with all your videos? Do the videos have subtitles?

No, it happens only with some videos.
Yes, I have SRT subtitle file for this video. But some other files in other folders (also 175MB XviD AVI, with subtitles in SRT file) can be played, but the subtitles feature either does not work or I don't know how to activate it (I activated it in the server preferences and the SRT file has the same name as the movie, except the file extension).

P.S. The virtual memory usage of ffmpeg process is still growing, it is on 21GB now.

The only thing necessary for SRT subtitles to work is for the file have same name as the movie (without the extension).
Do none of your SRT files work for you?
Also, if you rename the SRT file for the movie that causes crash, does it still hang? The problem could be related to subtitle rendering.
Too bad we didn't get this reported during beta testing.

Yes. Problem is gone when I removed the SRT.

Can you please post the SRT file here?
