I just wanted to point out that this does in fact work for remote streaming, you just need to forward the port you are using to the proper computer.
If I could make a recommendation - allow for a convert offline folder. I have most of the videos in write protected directories, and I would rather not open them up to any available user. Just a thought =]

I vote for Linux support. Like many others, I run a combination of MAC, Windows (required for my day job), and Linux. My MAC's are laptops and I use Linux for utilities like file and print services...

If you read the thread you might find out that there already is a linux version.

Apologies - didn't see that there were 10 pages in the thread. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks.

Awesome app! Thanks for the linux support. Downloaded the free iPad version, verified everything worked, then bought the full version.
Thanks!

Well, this was working for me, but started erroring out. The weird thing is that I can't view files on my iPhone, but a friend can connect with an iPad and view videos via Live Conversion just fine. I saw on the home page that the 'server needs to be updated', etc, but I'm using the Alpha2 server on page 9 or so of this thread.
Any thoughts on why the iPhone would fail, but iPad work? I was also able to connect my iPhone to another Mac based server and it worked just fine, so it doesn't look like the client.
When going into a directory, I get the following when creating thumbnails:
When clicking on an item, I can't get to the information screen on that file - it just hangs on Loading.

How hard would it be to use the live streamer / segmenter with the HTML5 video element? (Safari/Webkit)

SERVER PASSWORD.
Added a password to the "password = " field in the test.properties
Neither the iPhone or iPad clients will connect, even given a simple password like "asdf"
It just keeps responding with "confirm password"
Anyone have an idea about this? Before I go and offer this out to the WWW (for my personal use), I'd like to password protect the running service (at least).
Thanks folks!

Hi there,
I am new to Air Video.
Bought myself an iPad and thought it will be good if I can stream videos from my Synology server - instead of going through my macbook pro.
I guess this option is still not available with Air Video, right?
Any chance of this happening in foreseeable future?
P

It's not possible. Live conversion needs a desktop grade CPU, not something a NAS can handle.

Thanks for the Linux port - you've just sold another full version thanks to it. Very easy to get running.
One question- it works well with .avi files, etc (and I was amazed that it can do a live conversion on a 1920x1080p bluray .m2ts) - but most of my media server has my DVD rips (ie with VIDEO_TS folders). Any way to get it to read the main movie from those?
Thanks,
Nikos

I think I solved this. This is on an ubuntu server with Sun Java. If anyone else has this issue, try the following as a start command:
/usr/bin/java -Djava.awt.headless=true -jar AirVideoServerLinux.jar airvideo.properties

Convert the VIDEO_TS folders or ISO's to MKV. That way you can play them locally (through VLC or whatnot) and AirVideo will also do a live conversion for you.
Use software called Handbrake. It's for Mac/Windows/Linux(I believe). Get it here: http://handbrake.fr/
Hope that helps!
