iOS Firmware 4.0 breaks Air Video TV Out support.
In 4.0 Apple disabled the only workaround we could have used to get TV Out support in Air Video. That means once you upgrade your firmware the TV Out will not work anymore. We'll try to find another one, but when or (or even if) that will happen is too soon to say.

I was under the impression that, like with the iPad in 3.2, iOS 4 was actually adding the ability for any third party app to use video out. I thought this was mentioned in one of the previews and Apple also now lists the dock connector to VGA adapter as an accessory for iPhone 4. Is this not a feature in iOS 4 like it is on the iPad? That's a bummer as I thought Netflix would work great with that feature too.

Replied using PM (iOS 4 SDK is still protected by NDA).

That's very bad news. Air Video has become one of the main programs I use on my iPod. To the point that I won't upgrade the firmware until Air Video can work with it. Apple isn't offering enough new changes/features to make up for losing that functionality.

so what happens when the iPad eventually goes up to iOS4 in late fall? I just spent days ripping my DVD's so i can play them over the air on our big screen. Or is this only an iPhone restriction?

I'm confused by this. Is this iPhone or iPad? My understanding from news articles was that iOS4 was making the VideoOut on the iPad easily accessible to developers so that you didn't need to do work arounds.
"The new iOS 4 also provides full VGA output from the iPad, capable of providing 1024x768 resolution, allowing developers to add video output options to their applications."

I have no idea how iPad will behave with iOS 4. However when plugging in the component cable to iPhone 3GS with iOS 4 it does not detect the external screen (even though there is API for multiple displays)/

Maybe it's a bug with the Golden Edition that you should try to report. Who knows... maybe they can do a quick fix

Hopefully this will be fixed soon. If not, does anyone know how to downgrade from iOS 4?

I think that unless you have saved an SHSH blob, you're out of luck at this point as far as downgrading goes.

ok..i have somthing to say..i've sent an email to the guys from StramTome and they said...quote: "TV Out is not working on the current version of StreamToMe (2.1.1) on iOS4.
A new version of StreamToMe (3.0) with support for iOS 4 features, including TV Out and Background audio, was submitted to Apple for testing 3 days ago and should be on the App Store as soon as it is approved (probably another couple days)."
so i guess they have founded a way to make that work...i beg you guys to find that too..cause without Air video my iphone is numb...
hope you'll do that
tnx

Please get this issue fixed. I bought an iphone dock some weeks ago especially for Air Video. And when trying to watch videos yesterday, I was very disappointed when the tv screen stayed blank.
