The problem is that it does occur during regular playback.

Is there any possibility this might occur if live conversion is a bit slow? My conversion server does something between 20-35fps and it's probable that the server might be stuck waiting on data?

It could happen when iPhone switches to lower quality stream, but it shouldn't start from beginning. You can try to go to Conversion Settings -> Global Settings and disable all bitrates except 1.5bmit/s (assuming you are playing this on local network)

Locking the bitrate to a single setting does appear to work around this problem. Thanks. I'll be looking forward to the next release of the air video server for linux.

Hi all,

First poster here, wanted to say thanks to the people who have put the effort into getting airvideo to run on linux!

However I cannot get this baby to run on my box. First off I have to say that my Linux expertise is not that great, I know a thing or two and usually am able to manage setting up most stuff (samba, webservers etc.).
I got the airvideo server to go as far as running without issues (as it seems) and returning "Air Video" to my iPhone's safari browser on "http://some.ip:45631". However when I setup my iphone for this airvideo box I can get into it as it seems but there's nothing shared, it just show a slash at the top nothing else, no errors either on the phone. I have double checked my test.properties file and the folders variable is correctly set to existent folders (wel actually to a mount folder).

I used this tut. to set things up on my ubuntu desktop machine. I replaced the mbirth user with my own and that usetr owns the shares so it should not be a permission problem.
I am pretty new to airvideo (never used it actually) and do not know if it has problems with subfolders in the shares defined. I think that's not the issue since I tried it in a folder with only files and it still didn't do a thing.

Are there any logs I can check? Haven't come accross any yet. Any help is greatly appreciated!

p.s.
I read that open java that ships with ubuntu can be problematic so I already installed Suns java, no difference though, made sure it was selected as default thru "sudo update-alternatives --config java"

p.s.s
Do you guys think I will be able to transcode using a Sempron 140 with unlocked core (equivalent to a AMD X2 4400E) ? If not I think I'll still like to use airvideo to quee up conversions to take with me when I leave my home (which I believe airvideo can do, right?)

There are no logs for shared folders. You can post here your test.properties at least.

Here you go

path.ffmpeg = /usr/bin/ffmpeg
path.mp4creator = /usr/bin/mp4creator
path.faac = /usr/bin/faac
password =
subtitles.encoding = windows-1250
subtitles.font = Verdana
folders = Series:/mnt/tvseries_2TB-2,Movies:/mnt/movies-2TB-1

java -version returns

java version "1.6.0_20"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)

All binaries are in place (ffmpeg, mp3creator, faac). Not sure about the password setting but filling it with a password didn't seem to help anything. Might be that setting's actually the PIN, so I also tried a 4 digit pass just in case. No luck yet.
Not too sure how to go about debugging this thing either, being a bit of a linux noob and all.

Just a quick notice on AirVideo and Ubuntu 10.04. Works like a charm with the custom ffmpeg version and x264 (85) from the repositories. In case anyone updated from 9.10 to 10.04. sun-java6 is now in the "partner" repositories.

Hi!

First of all, THANK YOU for supporting AirVieo on linux. Im running on Fedora 11 and it works like a charm!!

Quick questions regarding performance.
What kind of hardware is recommended to get full quality from AirVideo running under linux?
Im currently running on an AMD Sempron 3100, 1.8 Ghz & 2Gb memory.

Getting the following output from the logs:

Well, generally Core 2 duo or equivalent is recommended. I don't have much experience with AMD processors.

I think a AMD processor with two cores does a good job too.

My setup runs on a AMD Athlon X2 4850e just fine.

I want to report success with installing Air Video on my unRAID server ( http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6097.0 ). I'm running an e6500 2.93 Dual Core with 2GB RAM and am able to do live conversion on every video I can throw at it, including 1080p full quality Bluray rips. Both cores settle around 45-50%.

Only item missing is Remote Access via a server pin, but router port forwarding should work for now.

Thanks for the linux version! I have now moved my Air Video server to my actual server rather than my Mac Mini 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo.

Yeah, password protection for the linux server would be nice. I don't really want an open air video server on the internet.

password protection actually does work, i have a short 4 letter password on mine and it works fine it works.

be careful of a trailing space after the password on your text editor, thats what happened on mine and it refused to take the pw

Same here. Can confirm that password works. Using 10+ letter password on both Fedora 11 and Ubuntu.
