I've been using some shares on a NAS with Air Video, but I find at times the shares are dropped (still shows up in the Air Video server, but shows "0" for contents on my iPad) at time - either during a restart of the Mac that Air Video server is on, or just randomly. Right now the NAS get an IP assigned via DHCP on my router. If I give the NAS a static IP address, would that help it from being dropped? In other words, does Air Video use IP address on a local network to access networked shares?
My thought was that when using DHCP, the router gives the NAS a new IP address on a regular basis, thus causing the drops from Air Video. If that's the case, then assigning the NAS a static IP outside the range of the DHCP range might solve the issue.

Hi, your probably need to add the drive to Login Items (System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Items)

Your NAS drive will need to have a static IP address or you can set your router to reserve an IP address. To find out how check your router manual.

Thanks - that's what I thought. I am running a couple of tests on NAS connectivity and static IP addresses and adding servers to the Login Items with two NASes. I will report back for those who are interested.

You don't need to add them to the login items unless the admin means to map the network drives and make sure to select "connect automatically". I use a NAS to hold all my video's.
The reason you need to map the drives is so they will keep the drive letters.

Login items are in OS X. You can't map drive in OS X.

I had the same issue pop up again - shared drive on a NAS was added to Air Video server (NAS had a static IP address and the shares in Air Video were added to Login Items), and they are now not accessible via my iPad after about 24 hours (show up with zero items in the Air Video app). The computer that Air Video sits on was not restarted, and the NAS' IP address is the same as when I added it to Air Video.
However,I can get to these shares on the NAS via the remote access (internet).
And...as I type this, when I do access them via remote, they show up again in the "regular" Air Video path (via the local network).
I've had periodic problems with shares on a NAS being dropped, so I was trying the static IP. Any thoughts?

Can you tell me the make and model of your NAS and router?

Ahhh, sorry I haven't got a great deal of knowledge of OS X. I will remember in future though.

Since you changed your NAS IP address, have you restarted your router?

No, the only thing I've done is set the router to assign IP addresses via DHCP in a range outside of the NAS' static IP. I didn't seem to need to restart the router after making that change.
The other setting I have just changed this morning is to extend the DHCP IP lease times to 7 days instead of 1 day, in case that might make a difference in terms of the MacBook Pro that the Air Video server is sitting on.

I would suggest restarting your router. Might sound silly but you never know.
1. Turn off you Mac/PC
2. Start by turning off your NAS drive
3. turn off your Router
4. Leave for 30 seconds
5. Turn on your NAS drive and wait for it to fully power up or 5 mins
6. Plug in your router.
7. Turn on your Mac

I have the same issue as MDS, same NAS unit also, ReadyNAS NV+, on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
The shares on the NAS are shared via Air Video Server. All works fine from the iPad. But if I leave it for a little while and come back to the Air Video app, the shares show up but have a (0) against each share name in Air Video. If I think go to my Mac, open Finder then actually click into the shares to show the files in Finder, the Air Video app shows the correct number of files in each folder again.
MDS, did changing to static IP then restart the NAS as Awire360 suggested work out?

Hi,
have you tried adding the Volume(s) to Login Items? (System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Items)
