First wanted to say that so far it's the best value for money I spent on my iPhone.

A few suggestions would make me even happier though :

- A to Z index on the right side of the list for movie titles for faster access
- Auto detection for "check for wifi" (not sure I get why it's there)
- Subtitles (I understand it's coming )
- Possibility to use images on the server for each movie thumbnail (ie same file name, different extension, eventually fixed size)
- Extending on this, possibility to use some xml file that would contain movie infos to display on the list (template would be provided)
- Option to hide file extensions otherwise
- Some kind of control over the iPhone buffer size so it doesn't stop every 10sec on poor connections

And of course a couple of "a boy can dream" requests :

- some coverflow UI for video selection
- OSX desktop client app
- and yeah finally some imdb/movie poster/tv show seasons features ala Plex/Boxee

A few more feature requests:

- Low process priority for conversion process
- Manipulation of conversion queue from server app. Simple drag n drop would be nice
- Adding multiple files to conversion from client (i.e. entire folder)
- Downloading converted files to phone via wifi

Overall, Air Video is a great product. Hopefully it would be even better with these features:

-VOB file support, like someone already mentioned.
-TS (Transport Stream) file support. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_transport_stream
-Sort options on the folder lists (Name, Date, File size, Type, etc)
-Music (MP3, AAC) streaming support, as others mentioned. Would be killer if well implemented with album art/cover flow, iTunes playlists, etc.
-Photo streaming, not important but would be nice.

This app is awesome! I love it and plan on buying the paid version. One feature that is kind of make or break for me though is having a buffer bar. Considering i'll mostly be streaming over network it would be nice to see how much of the video has been buffered so you can just pause the video until it has buffered sufficiently. I tried streaming over 3g today and playback was very spotty.

Feature request:

-Buffer bar - so you can see how much has been buffered so you can pause and wait accordingly.

just like to say i just recently downloaded your app and so far i think its amazing.

just had a few ideas though.

-I also think that adding music streaming would be great, I have only come across 2 or 3 apps out there but none of them are really worth a damn, they are outrageously pricy and do not work over wifi without an internet connection.
-also i agree with the subtitles and volume boost.

thanks and keep up the good work!

I second the request for music streaming (either as an additional feature of Air Video, or as a new app). Please though, make sure that it can work similiar to Air Video (i.e. serve up folders that contain .mp3 files) as an alternative to just using my iTunes account. I have lots of .mp3 files stored on my home PC that I have not brought into iTunes (and I'd like to keep it that way).

Make it into AirServer and combine all : video, music(iTunes), and photo(iPhoto)

Killer App !!!!

Hi Admin,

I would like to congratulate you on a great software program. The only feature that I see you can add, which I also wouldn't mind paying extra, would be for a Windows client software so that you could watch your videos remotely on your computer from your server. That would just be phenomenal. I too recommend just like a person before me did, control screen colors and perhaps brightness (maybe an Apple only restricted feature), louder audio, and variable bit-rate which accommodates to the current network speeds. Other than that, I can see nothing else needed to this great piece of software.

Please also try to add support for VOB files.

Just wondering if you have considered creating a app for Windows Home Server?
I have a WHS setup at home with all my media on it and it would be awesome not to have to use a seperate PC to access the home server.

Love the app and best of luck to you guys!

How about a version of the server program that also allows connection to a PSP3?

I have tried other programs for this function but they tend not to work because the movie is not in the 'just right' format.

Thanks for the great App

My feature request is the ability to download the video to the Iphone for off line watching.

I noticed from other posts on the forums that the admin/author indicated it likely wouldn't be added but I do hope that decision is reconsidered. When I archive my DVDs to VOB form I do it such that there are no chapter/scene selection considerations etc. Technically I believe this should be possible as I use a program called PS3MediaServer to stream and convert on the fly VOB files to a format my PS3 can playback. From my understanding a VOB file is a container for a mpeg-2 file so if Air Video can play mpeg-2 (which I know i can as that is how I play back my PVRd TV shows on my Touch), I think getting simple, single file VOBs to play through Air Video should be doable.

I tried renaming my VOB files to .avi and .mpg but still couldn't get get Air Video to admit it could play the file, it just says the file needs to be converted.

I have a number of tv series extracted as vobs. I used dvd shrink to remove menus and titles and also extracted each episode to single vob file. Although the vob files will not play back natively, they do work when the extension is changed to mpg. I can live stream them over my home network or 3g without any problems.

I use tversity to stream the files to my ps3 which i believe can play vobs or mpgs natively without any conversion.

Maybe this setup will work for you also??

Vobs can be played with live conversion, but only if they are merged in one file. Vobs that are split will not work. That's why we don't support the .vob extension (because lot of people would complain that their vobs don't work) nor do we officially support vobs.

This App is just awesome!

What would be useful:

- convert all videos in a folder (and subfolders)
- watch for changes in a folder (and subfolders) and convert all incoming new videos

and then, if the filename contains for example S02E01, use the filename to get some information and tag the files…
