Thanks. The problem is caused by Java bug in Leopard (Snow Leopard works ok). It's responsible for both the ffmpeg leaking and subtitles not showing. It will be fixed in next Air Video Server update.

Air Video Server 2.2.1 for OS X was released. It should fix the problems with subtitle rendering.

I'm running my Air Video on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit - do you think I have a similar problem? Although I don't use subtitles.
A few days ago the error happened again when I was watching videos from the Poirot folder - have to keep manually restarting the computer.

Thank you, it solved the problem. However sometimes it starts buffering a new video before playing it, and after a few seconds I am back on the video information screen without any further notice. But it usually works if I try it once or twice again.

Unfortunately that's not the case. This problem was related to OS X Java implementation.
Do all videos in the poirot folder have thumbnails generated? Do you have any video in your library that fails to generate the thumbnail?

All the videos have generated thumbnails.
Do you think it is possible that in future versions of the server it will be possible to create a cut-off period for creating a thumbnail for a video (e.g. 5 seconds with the option to reload)?
