I'm pleased to announce that new Air Video Server version is available.

You can download it for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows.

Changes since last stable release
- Better performance on multi-core machines
- Significantly faster buffering and seeking times (for best performance make sure only one bitrate is selected on client)
- WTV format support (preliminary, might not work with all files)
- Support for AirPlay and high quality 5120kbit/s bitrate (requires client update, currently pending approval)

Changes since beta3
- Fixed playback for files with certain aspect ratios
- Fixed playback for certain files that didn't play at all
- WTV improvements (support still preliminary, beware)

I gave this one a try with high hopes but it seems even worse. I didn't get any thumbnails so I tried clearing the cache as suggested in another post and beta4 was not able to generate new ones. I see a lot of errors in the thumbnail logs about thread exceeded 60s and was destroyed. Again this is windows 7.

Downgraded back to 2.4.3 and it quickly generated all my thumbnails.

That really shouldn't happen. Are the files in local folder or network drive? How many items in folder?

Local folder. 34 items. A mix of folders and video files

I've uploaded new build (update1), can you please give it a try? The previous build that you have tried doesn't contain a fix for thumbnails generation on Windows that should have been there, which might cause your problems.

Ah! That is much better. I just gave it a quick test and I was able to generate thumbnails and also was able to watch some of the longer programs I was having trouble with before. I will try it out a bit more and enjoy the faster indexing.

Great bit of software this.

Thanks.

Wonderful job with WTV files, they all work great now. I also notice a lot of improvement on CPU usage. Now if only we could find a way to play a live TV stream, maybe from a UPnP server...

It would be nice to be able to select a folder on the device (iPad for me) and have it convert say a folder I select (a TV season of shows for example) so they will stay on the device for offline viewing later? In a folder in the iPad video section?

Regards,

Aidan

Beta 4 currently stable with improved performance. Anxiously awaiting client w/airplay compatibility. How can users help more to promote your efforts?

Some .mpg files did not play or convert before this release. This is fixed indeed. Thanks.

Greetings,

Just wanted to start off by saying its a great product you have!

As of the update, I am unable to play certain .mkv files. I do not know how to find the necessary detailed information, but heres a couple snippets from the server log (Beta-4 of 2.4.5)

Live Conversion
2011-03-07 15:27:54 SegmentedEncoder: Resampling with input channels greater than 2 unsupported.
2011-03-07 15:27:54 SegmentedEncoder: Can not resample 6 channels @ 48000 Hz to 2 channels @ 48000 Hz

Last Line for 'Queued for Offline Conversion'
2011-03-07 15:24:24 Conversion: Resulting file is smaller than 1KB - something went wrong. Deleting.
(Not really any detail in this one but meh.)

Downgraded to 2.4.3, 0 issues on the exact same files.

That said, for the files that would play, its much faster than before

Is there any way I can provide more information to help? The mkv files in question are 1GB, approximately. Audio is in FLAC, I think... if that makes any difference?

Edit for additional info: All files are on local drives.

I had AirVideo 2.4.3 installed and running fine, it had automatically port forwarded UPnP on my router. I thought i would give the beta a try. I worked for a day, and then said there were no UPnP devices found. I tried to install the 2.4.3 and its now saying the same thing. It worked on every version so far up until I installed the beta, now it won't work over 3G

I tried to use AirPlay together with AppleTV (beta3 installed) and with iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3 GM installed) and iPad (iOS 4.3 GM installed). It needs a lot of time to start and then the app goes back to file selection. Tried it again and again and it worked after a restart of AppleTV and a restart of my iPhone.

AirPlay to AppleTV works not very steady at this time.

Anyway ... I am sure you will fix it soon.

Best app on my iPhone and my iPad!
