I have been using Air Video for a while on my iPhone and Ipad and love it. I now want to purchase and Apple TV to take advantage of the Airplay feature. I am a bit confused on how it works. Do I need to stream my movies from my Mac with the Air Video Server to my iPad or iPhone and then use the Airplay feature on that device to push the Movie to my Apple TV.

That is how it works. You stream video from your computer to iPhone/iPad and then you can redirect it to Apple TV.

Do you think there will ever be the feature that will allow me to stream directly from my Mac to the Apple TV without having to use the iPhone or iPad

That being said what happens to the quality of the video when it is run through another device. Am I better off using my iPad to stream to my Apple TV or does it not matter when I am doing it over wifi.

If you are not using live conversion (the file is already in Apple TV friendly format) there will be no quality change.

During live conversion it might be, depending on settings and how powerful your computer is.

i have the option on iphone when playing video to send to apple tv but still only get the audio. I purchased the Air Video app on my iphone today too.

Same here,
it shows the AirPlay button but on click it says that it can't play on AppleTV.

Ok I found if that it don't work in any way on the iPhone.
On iPad it works with already converted files but not on live conversion!

(Admin). Is this how Air Video intended for it to work or is this a technical glitch. Should it work with any IOS device running 4.3 in non conversion or conversion mode

Dude... if you want to stream media from your Mac directly to your Apple TV you don't need Air Video and it would be dumb to resort to that.
Just set up Home Sharing (in iTunes) on your Mac, and then you can access if from your Apple TV. I've been doing this for YEARS without the need for Air Video.

Dude,
would my ATV and my AirVideo Server be in the same network I would do the same.
But I stream the content over the internet to my devices and then to my ATV...

I know you can use Home sharing to stream directly to an Apple TV but that means I would have to have my video in an iTunes freindly format. Air Video has a wider range of format support. Ideally I would like a prodgram like VLC to have an Airplay feature to allow me to stream any video type to an Apple TV like MKV files and VOB files

AirVideo and iOS4.3 + AppleTV2 = Best thing since sliced bread!!!
I can stream basically any video format, including realplayer (rmvb) files, to AppleTV2 via airplay! Amazing!
AirVideo is probably the best investment I've made on the iTunes App Store.

That sounds great. Does live conversion work too? what about the Video quality, is it same as the original file or due to the live conversion it would be of a lesser quality?

Thanks
