It did not go well on my poor QNAP.
It fails to generate thumbnails, and the stream gives an error, whereas Alpha3 worked fine.

What do you prefer in terms of logs?

That's rather weird. Does it fail with all your files? Also, are you using SUN JRE?

Nope... I have a ARM processor in QNAP so it's OpenJava. This worked fine in Alpha3 but it could be an issue...

I trying to go back to 'alpha3' but then there is no listings of the files. I'm quite sure I'll figure out what's wrong with downgrading soon

OpenJDK is based on sun's java, that shouldn't be an issue.

OK.. As it showed in Alpha3 as well.
Where is the cache located? I'm having a hard time getting it back up and running and wonder if it's cache related.

Have a ubuntu lucid / 64bit box, quad core.
SUN Java version is this one.

Most movies i have are mkv (720p/1080p). With os 3.2.1 all was good,

But after uprading my iphone 3gs to 4.0.1,
streaming stoppt always. Did not know why.

Get mostly that usage:

But it worked with disables sound .

--

I can also reproduce it

When I downgraded it quickly to alpha 3,
stream stopps after few sconds

And when I use the new alpha 4 it works with the same mkv files.

Thanks...

My finding so far:

Alpha 4 gives me error even with a clean new cache (First time it give cache error but a restart makes it fine)

If I try to play a file anyway it's a similar error:

Cleaning the cache and running 'alpha3' works fine, so I'm up and running again.

Let me know how/if I can assist you in troubleshooting. My client is both iPad and iPhone. All of the files are converted DVD's with Handbrake

Does it also happen when there is only one file in folder?

Then it works!

First start-up with clean cache gives error

Shut-down and restart and I'm OK

Selecting a folder with one item created a thumbnail, and when selecting it, I could play

So multiple files in a folder is the bandit for me

I have uploaded new build with one more line in thumbnail generation log. Can you redownload alpha-4, clear thumbnail cache and test it on the folder with multiple files again?

Same error when starting for the first time

Still not showing the thumbnails but the logging improved:

Selecting a file doesn't generate the thumbnail and throws exception (after a long time period)

It shows the buttons in the client (PLAY etc) and tries to load. Trying to PLAY generates error, but it plays the file!

Reloading the directory shows a few thumbnails as invalid and some is showing

Okay, here's what's going on. When getting thumbnails takes more than 10 seconds the thumbnail generation bails. It should never take more than 10 seconds to generate a thumbnail, unless the computer is really underpowered. Which your NAS might be. What CPU does it have?

It's not the fastest on the planet (but is consuming 14W in active mode). I will never expect the thumbnails to be done within 10 sec (about a 1minute or so in alpha3). It's a old QNAP 209 II with Debian running for the ARM processor

CPU Marvell 5182 500MHz
DRAM 256 MB DDRII

This is not really a issue for me, since the streaming is working fine. I don't have the demands browsing and constantly adding files.
