The above line points to the error. The Java runtime is trying to execute "/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg", but can't. This is usually because (a) the file doesn't exist or (b) the permissions for "/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg" aren't set correctly.

Try this

This will list the details for the file. If you see then your ffmpeg executable is missing. Otherwise, you have two options (probably more, but let's look at two):

1) The following gives everyone permission to read and execute /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg.
2) The next line will execute the script as root (as long as you have sudo set up and root has execute permissions on the file. see http://quaid.fedorapeople.org/sudo-tutorial/)

I am looking for the properties file variables(s) that I need to set to allow alpha4 to convert files in a local folder.

Can someone please share the variables or point me to a post that has the info?

Searching so far as not revealed the info.

Thanks.

It does conversion in the same directory as the video. There are several comments about this around the forum:

Ah. I assumed that alpha4 would have the same features as v2.4.2 of the OS X server. Do we know when the linux server will have feature parity with v2.4.2?

I can not play any video and always getting same error:

Any ideas how I can fix it?

EDITED: I've found a problem, it is a bug in ffmpeg which has in the file _overlay.c
the following code:
host = gethostbyname("127.0.0.1");

and I do not have loopback interface, because I run in under linux-vserver, so I've changed it to

host = gethostbyname("localhost");

so at least I will be able to set it in /etc/hosts

and problem is gone.

My media server, which is always on, is a Ubuntu Box. Since getting the awesome Air Video, I now need to keep my Mac switched on to benefit from the media server - I do not own a single Windows box, so a Ubuntu Air Video Server would be perfect for me... I hope there's one in the pipeline...

I do have the same problem that whatup in ubuntu 9.10 and 10.4.

I have seen that the problem is due to the fact that the customized version of ffmpeg 2.2.5 cannot connect to port 46631 when the process is lauched from the java application, but if you launch the conversion to m4v file from the shell (the same command that appears executing 'ps -elf') while the java application ir running it starts. If the java application is not running it returns with the same socket error 111 (impossible to connect to server).

Hi,

first I wanted to thank you for your efforts on creating a linux version of the server.
I bought airvideo for 2 ipads and one iphone shortly after the first alpha version. It always worked great.

Unfortunately I got a problem since the update to alpha4. It became neccessary because of the current airvideo apps refusing to work with the old version. Since this switch videos with 23.97 (ntsc) produce a slight stuttering during live transcoding. I am not sure what the problem is. I read in another post that the previous desktop version had a bug, which caused it to round the framerate down to 23 instead of roundin it up to 24. If this problem has been fixed in the desktop version, but not in the linux alpha build it would explain the stuttering I am observing completely. Is there a chance this could be fixed and released in an alpha5?

If you need any kind of log information to fix the problem please don't hesitate to contact me.

Cheers,
Jakob

I have a qnap ts809-pro that I'd love to get air video server installed on so i can stream and transcode avi to my wife's ipad, but despite the very helpful thread at:

http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=177&t=32731

I'm too much of a n00b to get it going. I detail the console output that I got in my post to that threat, so I won't repeat it here, but in essence it seems like i have got all the packages i need installed successfully. However, gcc and git are not found when I actually try to run them/use them to compile stuff, so I can't get any further with adding h264, xvid etc. Any hand-holding would be very welcome.

Installed the Linux Alpha server on my Debian Lenny, and it works well so far. No hiccups so far...
This must be the greatest app for iPad yet!
