Any possibility of improving Air Video's support for EyeTV recordings (in .eyetv packages), including certain metadata, and ignoring schedules (in .eyetvsched packages) when EyeTV Archive folders are added to the server's list? It already handles playback of .mpeg (Transport Stream) files in the .eyetv packages quite well, but those packages have to be individually navigated into while ignoring .eyetvsched packages and other files. If the Air Video server at least filtered out everything by the .mpeg files that would be a useful start. Thanks!

Air Video 2.4.10 (iPad 2, iPhone 3GS [iOS 5.1]), Air Video Server 2.4.5-beta7 (Mac mini [Early 2009, OS X 10.7.3]), 802.11g/n WLAN

I'm not sure. Noone around here uses EyeTV so I'm not sure what exactly is in the package and what would it take. Also it depends on what demand is there for such feature.

Here's what an .eyetv recording package might possibly contain:

0000000009eed112.eyetvp
000000000fe05569.eyetvi
000000000fe05569.eyetvr
000000000fe05569.iPhone.m4v
000000000fe05569.iPhoneCell.3gp
000000000fe05569.iPodBest.m4v
000000000fe05569.mpg
000000000fe05569.tiff

The .mpg file is the original MPEG Transport Stream recording; that's what AV minimally needs to see. The .m4v and .3gp files are optional "internal" H.264 exports, of different quality, for supporting EyeTV's overly restrictive streaming playback methods; it could be useful to AV to see those, too. The *.eyetvp and *.eyetvr are XML files containing more than enough metadata Air Video might ever care about; they could initially be ignored. The .eyetvi (internal data) and .tiff thumbnail image) files are ignorable.

The .eyetvsched schedule packages, which have similar contents (minus recordings), are totally (and most desirably) ignorable.

If you're interested I can send that small (~7MB) .eyetv example, with a few screen images showing how it (and the parent folder) currently look in AV.

So, for starters, navigating EyeTV recordings (and "internal" exports) on the client would be much cleaner if the AV Server (or client) simply ignored the .eyetvsched packages.

For .eyetv packages with only an original .mpg recording the AV listing could display the recording directly instead of the containing folder.

It'll be obvious if you see screen images so I won't try explaining anything further now.

Also it depends on what demand is there for such feature.

It could increase Air Video sales to EyeTV users looking for streaming capabilities the Elgato's software doesn't support. I've already mentioned AV a few times on the EyeTV Lounge forum, e.g. here, but don't want to sound like I'm advertising for a potentially competing product.

There is a huge database of EyeTV users and I am one of them. I just bought Air Video and I think this product is absolutely great and certainly ought to support EyeTV recordings. It would be an even greater hit.

I'm sure Air Video's gotten new sales after being mentioned on Elgato's forum so hopefully at least that'll inspire the developer to eventually improve EyeTV support.

I am also an EyeTV person and would love to see better support for the format as described here before. ServeItToMe has the support so I cannot imagine it would be too hard to implement. I would also like to see the ability to view the app in portrait mode on the iPad. Additionally, would it be possible to hook into the Turbo.264 HD device to speed up conversion, as an option for those that have the device. That would be really cool.

Nope: Support for Elgatos Turbo Sticks

+1 for better EyeTV support!!

Since AirVideo can (transcode and) stream EyeTV recordings I'm quite happy with the current form, but it could be more polished just as "sjk" has mentioned. Support for EyeTV playlists (like iTunes playlists) would be perfect but I'm not sure if Elgato has open API for that. As an additional feature that could improve user experience for most people, it would be nice to have a search bar for searching in current folder.

Thanks for reminding InMethod that some of us are still interested in this.

Whatever AppleScript support EyeTV provides seems the closest there is to an API and it doesn't know about playlists (stored in .EyeTVPlaylists/*.eyetvsl XML files).

You can add me to the list of eyeTV users that would also like to see more support for eyeTV related videos.

I find airvideo's support for the mpg files within an eyetv recording (package) to be hit and miss. Sometimes it works and sometimes when I try and view the mpg file within the package it just hangs on the iPad (not the application but the spinning wheel of preparing the conversion fails). I have not been able to work out any rhyme or reason to it. Given that exporting the eyetv video file as an mpeg program stream always results in a file that can be read my guess is that there is something in header of the mpg file within the eyetv package that prevents it being converted properly by ffmpeg.

It would be really great if airvideo could reliably stream the mpg file within the eyetv file package. What information would the airvideo programers need to sort this problem out.

Some more details from the intermittent failure to play the mpeg files within an eyetv package.

Here are the logs from AirVideo server 2.4.5 beta6 for two files that failed to launch.

In both cases their are segment encoder errors that are NOT present when the files run successfully.

Looks like an FFMPEG issue.

Do the developers look at these forums? Anyone comment?

Some further information from the developers of StreamToMe which suggests the solution requires some modifications to the FFMPEG application.

As an aside does anyone know if install multiple FFMPEG "applications" it can cause a problem or do the applications know to call a specifically customised FFMPEG "application"?

Hi Roger,

ServeToMe works with the EyeTV files I have been sent for testing. We did make some minor ffmpeg changes to get this to work (EyeTV files often have some timestamp discontinuities at the start that ServeToMe knows to skip over).

I can't guarantee it will work with *all* EyeTV files we've only tested against the two .eyetv folders we've been sent. But if you have problems, you're welcome to send us the broken files and we can try to address any issues.

With regards to the skip 30 seconds button... theoretically, we could add a skip forwards 30s button. You're probably better off dragging the thumb though. Due to the way Apple's HTTP live streaming works, any effort to skip outside the current play buffer is inaccurate by up to 8 seconds. Over the course of an ad break, this could be 30-40 seconds -- you might as well drag the thumb. We're going to redesign the player interface for StreamToMe 4 though, so we may revisit this.

Regards,
Matt Gallagher.

Dear Matt,

I have an EyeTV connected to my Mac and record lots of programs. EyeTV has an option to prepare files automatically but this wastes disk space. Inside each EyeTV file (container) there is a file ending in .mpg. I currently use AirVideo and it can navigate to the contained mpg file however it does not consistently run these files (when it does it works properly). I think the issue is an FFMPEG one but I recall reading you provide a customised version of this program.

The interesting thing is that if you export the eyetv files as mpeg program streams they always work perfectly (but the exporting is a manual process). My guess is that there is some header information in the unexported mpeg file causing information.

What I want to know is whether or not you can play these unconverted EyeTV files on the iOS StreamToMe application?

Please at least filter out .eyetvsched folders, similar to how .torrent files are ignored, so they don't clutter up the main EyeTV Archive folder listing.

I assume .eyetvsched is a folder name extension?
