Extremely happy with the air videoserver and client i was surprised to see
all of my high def movies available to play, even without conversion.
Not only do 720p movies play without glitches, even the 1080p blockbusters
do run fine.

Checking my Wifi troughput i see it saturated with 2-3MB/s which makes
me wonder if the videos are realy the originals played or if they get "on the fly"
converted. I did choose the "play" option not "play with live convertion".

Is the iphone realy playing hd video?

Which brings me to my next thought, what resolution is the iphone outputting over the Dockconnector Component cable?

Hi,

I'm rather surprised to hear that iPhone plays 1080p video. "Play" just streams the video, no transcoding is done. Do you have iPhone 3GS?

Yes a 3GS 32 GB.

It plays the 1080p file without any stop or lag fine.
Maybe because it is low bitrate for full hd.

But i tested it also with 720p sources.

It is indeed a low bitrate for a full hd movie but it's still an improvement over iPhone 3G which usually just ends with "video format not supported".

Here's my problem:

When I play an .avi, my iphone buffers every 1-2 minutes.

When I live convert a .avi, Air Video tells me that my computer is not fast enough.

When I play a .m4p, my iphone buffers every 1-2 minutes.

When I Live Convert a .m4p, the movie plays flawlessly.

I'm thinking I need to upgrade my computer speed. Here's what I'm running:

AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ S.754 PROCESSOR CPU
2GB DDR400 PC3200

Can anyone tell me if there's something basic that I can improve?

OR

Do I just need to upgrade my computer speed? What minimum speed should I get? Dual Core? 4 GB DDR Ram?

Let me know what you think!

Hi,

for live conversion you need at least Core Duo CPU (or equivalent). Single Core Athlon 64 will not be fast enough.

I'm not sure about the M4P, it shouldn't be supported at all because it's DRM protected.

Another question..Why does on the fly conversion seems to be a lot faster than video that is already converted? It takes 5 minutes to start an formated movie compare to 1 minute start time on the fly conversion? I have the iphone 3gs.. Hope my question makes sense..On the fly conversion is a lot faster than movie that doesn't need conversion..!???

It is faster because with live conversion the resulting bitrate in your case is probably much lower. So there is less data to transmit.
