We want to be able to perform offline conversions then save locally to the device for later playback without the need Air Video Server to be involved.

To do that, you can just use AirVideo Server to convert videos then add them to iTunes and sync devices.

Sure thing. That's super elegant...
People know it's possible, it's just an ugly solution, especially for those of us, who have been using airvideo on a remote linux server.

With a simple network share, the "automatically add to itunes" feature, and assuming that people regularly sync their devices with iTunes anyway, the process can be fully automated.
How ugly is that?

Bonjour,

If this is true then Air Video is the bomb! Especially if you only have a 16GB iPad. No need to worry to store or convert the content before playing

The only two reasons why you would want to convert your files are 1. if your server is not powerful enough to convert on the fly, or 2. if your files cannot be synchronized natively (eg, they're AVI files) and you need a portable version of them (eg, to take with you on a train or on a plane with no or poor connectivity)

Live conversion must at least store a bit of temp/buffer content somewhere?

Live conversion is performed in memory, like in most streaming apps.

Great news! Thanks!
Hi
I really appreciate the "preferred languages" setting for subtitles, but would it be possible to implement the same for audio channels?
