Yeah, this really bugs me too. It seems to be a general problem with all .smi subtitles. &apos comes up a lot too. Windows server.
Just watched my first 10bit anime! Thank you much for adding that.
Another vote for 10 bit support!
resetting the thumbnail cache seemed to fix my issue.
I just ran into a wierd issue with a 1080 mkv file. It loads and then it crops it. It shows it as 704x384 on the info screen but if I look at the logs I can see it's just cropping it to that...

Ah! That is much better. I just gave it a quick test and I was able to generate thumbnails and also was able to watch some of the longer programs I was having trouble with before. I will try it out a bit more and enjoy the faster indexing.
Local folder. 34 items. A mix of folders and video files
I gave this one a try with high hopes but it seems even worse. I didn't get any thumbnails so I tried clearing the cache as suggested in another post and beta4 was not able to generate new ones. I see a lot of errors in the thumbnail logs about thread exceeded 60s and was destroyed. Again this is windows 7.

Downgraded back to 2.4.3 and it quickly generated all my thumbnails.
I should have mentioned, mine was windows as well. Windows 7 64 bit.
I did cause I had run it the night before. That didn't change things. Yeah, I thought the behavior was pretty strange myself. It was consistent though. After uninstalling and reinstalling 2.4.3 the videos all play fine as before though.
Well, it wouldn't even get to where I had the option to pick, but it would be live conversion. I use ac3 passthrough so I am always doing live conversion.
I tried this last night and had some excellent luck with it. I was seeing much faster seeking and buffering times. I went to watch again this morning though and I ran into troubles. I noticed that many of the m4v files I had encoded would not come up. They showed thumbnails, but when I select them the preview never loads and no messages are logged. I just get a 'wait' spinny thing. I experimented and found that the problem seemed to be mostly with longer videos. I had been watching half hour videos the night before and they had all worked fine. When the video gets up towards an hour though many of them would not load.

I reinstalled 2.4.3 and it just gave me the beta again, so I had to uninstall it and then reinstall 2.4.3. The old version still plays all my videos fine.

The problem files were all h.264 .m4v files from the latest handbrake. I was able to view short videos done with this method, but longer ones were randomly failing.
I just wanted to throw in asking for this feature too. Now that handbrake supports subtitles I have been ripping my DVDs and then coverting them with handbrake. I have a lot of anime DVDs which are encoded with directvobsub subtitles now that I can't watch on air video. The vobsub quality is quite good but they are visual subs. I suppose you would want to render them on the server side and then send them with the rest of the image. Dunno how hard tihs would be, but it would be a nice feature for you to have. Your main competition doesn't support vobsub either.
