I'd like an option to send a message to the PC to shutdown. useful for when I'm watching a video in bed at night and don't want to use another Iphone app to shut the PC down.
Hi,

I'm using the latest beta as at yesterday, 2.1.8 beta 2

And yes, it is locally over a netgear wireless router about 15 foot away (in height, as I view it directly over the living room where the router is)

I'll give it another go tonight, but I'll download and install beta 3
Sorry about the long title, but last night was watching a 350mb avi 45 minute video (merlin series 2) via live conversion.

The PC wasn't running any other tasks (it's an XP SP3 build, 1.8ghz dual core, 2gb of ram, 7200rpm sata drives, Geforce9800GT Gfx card), and I got two 15 second pauses, one at about 20 mins and the other at about 35mins.

As I leave the PC on overnight (I'm watching on the iphone in bed at 11pmish), I thought I'd come down in the morning, check the live conversion log and post it here.

Unfortunately, whilst the PC was still running the airvideoserver (viewed in the task manager), I couldn't see the app running in the system tray, so couldn't get to the live log. I'll try again tonight, but this time leave the airvideoserver app interface visible and focused on the PC.

cheers

Mat

I hit some pause buffering issues last night using live video conversion for the first time since I initially setup Air Video.

I watch the video in bed with the PC downstairs (which autoshuts off at 1am), so couldn't view the live log.

Basically I think it might be down to one of two things.

1) The video I was watching was double the size, 1.4gb, xvid than the 700mb ones I've been playing before, and I had "seeked" to the last point I'd been watching the previous night, about 30 mins into the video

2) I'd installed the Air Mouse server on the PC yesterday evening (allows you to control mouse/keyboard via the iphone), and that's always running on the PC, so maybe that's causing an issue

I'm going to try tonight on the same video without the air mouse server running.

so judging by this, if I got myself one of these,

I should be able to watch Air Video on this - i.e you use the same video output as the main Ipod app ?

Cheers

Hi

I've been doing some more testing at the weekend, and as expected, it seems it was a glitch at my end. First of all I've turned the screensaver off and any other power saving functions. Also I've made sure that I've left the PC switched on for a few more minutes after boot before trying to convert on the fly. And lastly, although not sure whether that made a difference, installed the latest air video server.

I've now played about 3 *50 min videos over consecutive nights, on the fly, and no problems at all.

Must right a 5* review of this great app when I next connect my Iphone to Itunes.

cheers

F|irst of all I should stress that the problems I'm having are probably my setup, as from what I can see/read, Air video is a really nice product.

I'm running the server on a XP dual core 1.8ghz PC with 2gb of ram. I'm using a Netgear 54g wireless router. The PC isn't running any other apps, although I did see this morning that the screensaver was set to 10mins - now disabled.

Last night, I finally had a chance to give Air video a proper go. I was using the iphone in the bedroom directly above the router in the living room, so I'm connected directly to the router, not via the net. The video I decided to try was a 30 min xvid, around 300mb.

First of all I tried on the fly conversion. It got to about 5 mins into the video, then started buffering. It didn't start again within a minute, so I thought I'd try adding a conversion to the queue. The conversion worked very well, and within about 10 mins the video had been converted.

However, about 20 mins into playing the video, it stalled - just stopped playing. On trying to restart at the same position, it wouldn't go any further. I don't think the log details anything on the server when it's serving a converted video ?

So I think it's probably tweaking my setup. what else do I need to do ?

Screensaver off ? open any ports for internal use ? I sit near a Chumby upstairs, could this be interfering ? Any other suggestions ?

cheers

sorry missed the link as was viewing from the iphone !

Anyway, I've tried the new version and it now works fine, even after reboot the RUN key still exists in the registry

I think the issue is that the Kapersky has a Registry Guard and if it sees some unauhorised/manual editing of the registry, it restores it back. As my PC is a pretty new build there wasn't a run key already as there was nothing to run at startup (or it ran it one of the other many ways xp handles startup apps).

By me manually entering a RUN key, it was restored back without it after a reboot by Kapersky

With this new version, obviously the app is now entering the registry key and as the app is allowed, so is the registry entry.

The issue with the remote running but the boxes not ticked was also linked to this issue as it's not happening now. Anyway thanks for all your very quick and attentive help. I'll try some more tests when I get home from work tonight, then if all is well, purchase the app and leave you a 5 * review

cheers

Hi, the issue appears the each time my XP machine reboots it removes the "Run" key. I don't know whether this is the av that's doing it as this area of the registry is well know for trojans.

If I run the server without the key, then it loses defaults and displays the remote progress bar as running even though the tick boxes are unticked.

so a bit of an issue here

Until it's fixed, I'll just have to run a registry key import, to generate the run key before running the server
Ability to shutdown remotely the host PC running the server. Useful when watching a video late at night
thanks, so if I look for this key and can't find it, what values do I need to put in there for air video to run ?

Or can you post a .reg file that I can import ?

With regard to the issues about the remote tab, are you saying I shouldn't see a port number or the green progress bar moving if I haven't got remote /net access enabled ?

cheers

Mat
Hi

when I look at the remote tab, both the checkboxes are unchecked, but it still says Port 13, no server pin, and the green progress bar underneath is running back and forward. This worried me as it appears that despite the not enabling remote access, this tab appeared to be doing something.

I decided to uninstall one more time and reinstall, but now I'm back to the original issue i.e an error message when I launch the server app I get the following error (see attachment). I'm the only user on this PC and it's set as administrator, and as you say if you don't run it as an admin, it can't create some of the keys - which the error appears to be complaining about.

A great shame as when it was working it looked like it would really do the job and enable me to view my videos on my iphone anywhere in the house.

My OS is WinXP SP3 with Kapersky 2009 Anti virus. The PC build is relatively new and that's why when installing air video server, it installed JAVA at the same time

Any other diagnostics I can give to help solve this issue, give me a shout

cheers

Mat

Thanks again

I noticed on the remote tab that whilst it isn't ticked it still shows a port number and the green progress bar is running. Is this normal if remote isn't ticked ?

Also a great features would be to be able to shut the pc down remotely
thanks for the quick reply

I uninstalled and reinstalled (same user) and now it's working. Might have been that it's a new machine and didn't have Java installed before the initial install of air video

I should be buying this tomorrow after a few more tests

there isn't any security issues with this server software is there ? I don't have remote enabled

cheers

Mat
Hi, Just installed the server on xp machine, with latest Java runtime, and I'm getting a Error#52

problem : Java programming issue
solution : Obtain the latest air video server

any guesses

cheers
