Suggestion: Test Files for subtitles?

To the Developers:

I think that a pretty easy way to know if the Air Video Server or the Air Video Client is working properly is to include a few test files that can come with the installation download, and maybe can be put up here with links for download as well.

You can have an .mkv for example with embedded subtitles that you know works, so we can download and play them. They really don't have to be big, maybe a minute's worth or less. As long as subtitles are being displayed there.

How the AirPlay feature in Air Video works?

Is it correctly understood that when I use Air Video on my iPad to play (using Live Conversion) a movie from the Air Video Server on my PC, and I choose to output the movie to my Apple TV using AirPlay, then the Air Video Server send the streams directly to the Apple TV and not through the iPad first?

(Like Apple's Remote app)

Subtitles settings

A few questions/suggestions in relation to display of subtitles:

- I know how to change the subtitle font and size in the settings for Air Video Server, but is it also possible to adjust the vertical position? I would the subtitles to be displayed slightly higher in the picture than they currently are.

- There does not seem to be any space between subtitle lines. Please consider adding a few pixels of space, or even allow the user to set the spacing in the settings for Air Video Server.

- I have noticed that the outline of the subtitles often look a bit strange when they are displayed on a light background. It seems to be due to anti-aliasing, softening up the black part of the outline by adding a few very bright extra pixels around the subtitles. An option to toggle anti-aliasing on/off in the settings for Air Video Server would be much appreciated. (I like the outline of the subtitles to be sharp!)

I think the above suggestions would help make the subtitles look closer to how they are "normally" displayed in DVD/BR movies...

Otherwise thanks for a great app :D

Higher Bitrate Options?

The current ones available are optimal for viewing on the ipad/iphone, but plugging at Tv shows some degradation compared to the original source...

If you could double the bitrare for 10mbits and also support 1080p out to TV air video would be a really nice way to send video from the computer to the Tv :P

3G bandwidth usage compared to original filesize??

All,
Tried searching but not sure I am using correct search words.

With regards to remote streaming over the cellular network (3G) on an iPhone 4S...
I am using the "Play with Live Conversion"
If my orignal file is 1023mb, how big will the streamed file be?
Is it still 1023mb of celluar usage or does it compress down do a smaller mb use?

What do the settings in the "Global Settings" area on the device impact, just speed or overall file size converted?

Sorry if this is listed somewhere, but I cannot find...

I am trying to determine what data usage on my phone I can expect and then select my data plan accordingly.

Any "rules of thumb" or personal conclusions are much appreciated

Thanks

Feature Suggestion - Network Usage tab on Air Video Server

First off, great app, finally an app that works well and really feeds the market what they want.

My suggestion is a network/bandwidth usage tab in the server software.

I have over 1100+ movies that all my friends and friends kids are streaming...problem is, I don't know how much bandwidth I am using with this one app.
In Canada, bandwidth is considerably more expensive than the US and upload bandwidth is very tough to increase with your ISP.

It would be great if you could have a usage log that showed all the activity out from the server app...just from that computer.
Something that would have a time stamp, file path, conversion size, and if possible some data about the user...so we can address the "abuser user".

Anyone else feel the need, or have a way for me to address another way?

While I am suggesting,... :-)
A buddy has an extensive library as well, any way to connect the iPhone app to multiple Air Video Servers at once,..ie a community?

Just a couple of thoughts...
Again, great job...

Option to have folders and files mixed together (not segregated) in file browser's sorting

Currently, the file browser segregates folders and files: folders are grouped together, sorted, and listed first, followed by video files. One might call this the Explorer style of file browsing.

Personally, I prefer Finder's style (particularly when sorting by modification date): files and folders are mixed, rather than in separate groups. I imagine most OS X users would also be more familiar with this style.

It would be great if there were an option somewhere ("Group folders together: yes/no") that allowed users to choose between these two styles.

File marking and deletion

I see that a few people have alredy suggested this but I'd like to add another vote for this feature please.

Ideally I'd like to be able to delete files that I have viewed from the Airvideo App - just swipe and delete.

To have them marked as viewed would be useful too but the deletion of files would be ideal for me - the simplest way to keep queuing up the next episode etc.

I'd also like to say what a fantastic little app you have created here. It works seemlessly and even does .wtv files which I was having all sorts of problems converting. So THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :D

Windows 7 Pro, 64bit, 4 core 2.8 gig, 8G RAM
