It contains regular FFMpeg build. It can still take advantage of multi-core CPUs, but it might not be able to load all CPU cores 100% for certain videos. Unfortunately the multi thread version of FFMpeg did cause serious AV sync issues as well as problem with seeking in TS files (which you have reported).

It made little diffrence. I have my settings for AirVideo on my iPhone to stream at about 25% - 40% quality. The videos are the same as I uploaded before. 12.5 MB/s H.264 ts files. The multi-theaded FFMpeg did a very good job of giving me smooth streaming.
Re:Air Video Server 2.1.8-beta8 released

Thanks for an awesome product!

For some reason, offline conversion stopped working in Beta 8 for me. (Moved directly from beta 5 when upgrading, but I have tried beta 6 and 7 with the same result afterwards.) What happens is;

The conversion starts and the CPU usage goes up to almost 100%, then after a minute or so it drops back down to 0% and the conversion is halted (estimated time remaining remains the same). It is not possible to click "stop conversion and clear que" at this point, nothing will happen. Only way to get the file out of the conversion que is to re-start the server and remove the file during the initial working minute or so. It does not seem to matter if the file has subtitles or not (tried several different video files/types).
Re:Air Video Server 2.1.8-beta8 released

Hi. I just wanted to start by saying that Air Video is by far my favorite app on the iPhone. It's totally amazing and I love it.

Now then.. the only problem I have with it (and unfortunately it's a big one) is that the 2.1.8 beta 8 encoder keeps crapping out on me. And by that, I mean it crashes about every 15 minutes or more of video play. The stable release of 2.1.7 doesn't do this at all. If there were some sort of log file I could check, I'd give you more info.. but unfortunately it appears as long it just decides to stop encoding without an error.

Hopefully you can help, or I can help you, find a solution to this. I would *love* be able to use this app with subs since I'm a bit of an anime fan and they tend to come in .mkv format with embedded subs rather than hardcoded these days.

Thanks for your time!

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to add some information. I don't have 3G where I live (*sniff*), so I can only use Air Video over my wireless connection. The crashing happens both with Live Conversion and Convert settings. It also happens whether the video has subs or not. I've tried it with a ton of my files and the result is always the same, so I know it's not just because of a badly encoded file.

In the next update, I think you should disable the ability to open more than one Air Video process at once. Because sometimes on my desktop, I'll accidentally click it (I'm not sure how, but I do... xD) and it opens up a second Air Video, which then I have to kill. Maybe make it give an error message saying "you already have the airvideo.exe process running (or w/e the process is called), you may not run another" or something along those lines.

Thanks for this sick app, my friend all the way across the world can now watch my videos from my desktop, thanks to this AMAZING app

You can clear the log, start playing the file and after the encoder crashes post the log here. Btw., what kind of crash it is? [/quote]

I'm doing the live conversion of the same video I used for the attached long right now. I'll post with that one once it's hit the error. The offline conversion happens really quickly (probably because it's encodes so fast), so I did that one first even though you didn't request it.

I should also point out that when the offline conversion crashes, it doesn't really "crash" per say. There's no error balloon or blue screen or anything like that. The program just stops encoding. In fact, it doesn't even look like it's finished. It never says it's complete or anything like that. I can just hear my system wind down and the air video program on the PC becomes a bit unresponsive. For instance, I can't click the "stop encoding and remove from list" button (or whatever the button says). I actually have to quit the program (which doesn't require quitting through the task manager, thankfully) and restart it, and *then* I can remove the file from the conversion list.

Thanks for being so quick to respond, and I hope this helps. I'll submit the live conversion log once I can.

Edit: Oh yeah. I forgot to mention I'm using Windows XP 32-bit Media Center Edition SP3. That was a bit silly of me.. I also have an iPhone 3G, but I don't think that really matters in this case.

Re:Air Video Server 2.1.8-beta8 released

Well, shoot. The video played all the way through with Live Conversion. It sometimes does that. It doesn't error as reliably as it does with Offline Conversion. Although, it did have this error at the very, very end:

LiveConversion: [libmp3lame @ 0x165b660]lame: output buffer too small (buffer index: 9216, free bytes: 576)
LiveConversion: Audio encoding failed

I was actually talking with my roommate, and there's a possibility that the erroring of Live Conversion might be more with my wifi dropping and not an error on Air Video's part. We think there might be someone microwaving their dinner around the same time at night, which is also around the same time at night that we like to watch movies together (I hitch the iPhone up to my TV). The reason I think this may be the case is because, unlike how the Offline Conversion errors, with Live Conversion I never have to quit out of the program in order to make the video start encoding again. Instead, it just magically starts buffering again after 30 seconds or so. If I get the error again, I'll definitely copy down the log and post it in here.

I'm sure you probably have everything under control, but I'm wondering if maybe the fact that Offline Conversion errors while the Live Conversion doesn't seem to may have something to with writing to the disk? *shrug*

Re:Air Video Server 2.1.8-beta8 released

Yeah, there is. I use one called SubResync (part of VobSub) to do it. However, occasionally you get these really annoying subs--like the one on this Evangelion movie that I want to watch--and the letters blend together and really confuse the OCR. The end result is that you either get subs with spaces in the middle of words, or no spaces at all. So what I do in that case, since mplayer/mencoder can play file with .sub/.idx subtitles, is re-encode the movie with the subtitles hardcoded onto the video. Then I use Air Video to either stream it or encode.

By the way, I should also mention that I love the fact that Air Video offline encodes videos. The quality is really amazing and I like just putting the .m4v files right onto my phone so I can watch the videos at work. I love it. I have successfully been able to do the same with mencoder, but the video quality isn't as great as what Air Video produces.

Edit: BTW, while I'm on the topic, do you think you'd be able to make a version of the iPhone/iTouch app that would let you select subs for a video rather than just having it select, I dunno, the first one? (I'm not really sure how you have it work.) For instance, I have a .mkv anime episode which has both .srt and .ssa subs embedded in it. The .ssa subs are *really* nice looking, but the .srt subs are really plain (like usual, since they aren't stylized). Anyway, the Air Video app chooses the .srt subs by default and doesn't give me any way that I see to choose the other ones, which I'd prefer. I mean, subs are subs, so I really shouldn't complain, but I'd much rather use the pretty ones if I had the choice.
