I'm not sure what this is called, Polygamy or something, idk... But in the next release, could you disable the ability to open two processes at the same time?

It's bit trickier than that. Some people deliberate use multiple Air Video Server instances, each one run with different user account. But we'll see what we can do about it.

When we used the Swedish subtitle it will not show ÅÄÖ. Instead it show the question mark.
Not a big problem but just so you know

I lied. It doesn't work perfectly.

I encoded two videos with it and about 3/4 of the way through both videos the audio restarts. It's the weirdest thing. Just suddenly the audio from the beginning of the file (in this case, the opening credits theme) starts playing and it continues on that way until the end of till the end of the file. I've never heard of something like that happening in an encoder before. That's a really weird bug.

First off, Happy New Year and kudos for the great work in creating this video streaming software!

Anyways, I am running beta 9 on 64-bit Snow Leopard and the first conversion job I attempted is stuck after about a minute or so. The source video is an xvid-format AVI that's being accessed from a network share.

I've tried rebooting and restarting the Air Video server but same results. When I try to stop the conversion and clear the queue, the confirmation dialog pops up but seems to do no good after I click on "stop conversion and clear queue" to confirm.

Anything else I should try?

This is how you can clean the queue:

Quit Air Video Server
Delete the Library/Application Support/AirVideoServer/conversionStatus2 file
Start Air VIdeo Server

is this reproduceable? Can you try converting the file again after this to see if it still happens? If so, can you post the offline conversion log for the file? Thanks.

Rather than that, I've deleted both Air Video Server and AirVideoServer folder in Application Support, and Reinstall it again.

I'm running on a iMac 27 core i7 with Snow Leopard.

But it stucks again, but this time, when i press "Stop current conversion and clear queue", the estimated time increased from 2m39s to 7m39s, and not cleaned the queue.

Then, with this fresh install and the first stuck I've done what you've said, Quit Air Video Server, delete that file, and start Air Video Server again (meanwhile, the iPhone app is always on), and then it stucked at the same point, but this time it didn't increase the estimated time.

All of this have been made with the best quality:

Ideal Video Width: 640 px
Ideal Video Height: 480 px
Quality: 100%

Then I tried to use the existing "High Quality" profile and, even though the conversion times are not the same, it stucks again, adding this to the end of the log attached:

Conversion: FFVC#stop(false)
Conversion: av_interleaved_write_frame(): Error while opening file
Conversion: Received signal 15: terminating.
Conversion: Bad file descriptor

It runs smoothly now, it took 3 minutes to convert a 350 mb standard TV show avi file, with no hangs up at all.

I'll keep testing if I see anything unusual, but this is the only thing I've seen till now.

I've seen it leaves a lot of trash in the same folder where the movie is being converted, as you can see in the picture.

There's a problem with a subtitle file that is not entirely formatted.

The following works perfect

The first line of the file states the {1}{1}25.000 line which indicate how many frames per second that the movie is running in. After that, the subtitles rolls. For the second row in my example, you have {355}{421} which indicates the startframe and endframe for the following text.

Worth to mention is that this plays well in VLC.

I've included the whole subtitle file as an attachment to this post.

The other file is not a SRT file. It seems to be a MicroDVD sub format. Try renaming it to .sub and see if it works.

Indeed it seems to be MicroDVD [url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroDVD[/url] but it did not help to rename the file to .sub . I've also renamed the entire movie-file and subtitle-file to clip.avi and clip.sub just to be sure there's no strange letters in the filename that screw things up.

So, kinda fishy this is. Do you or someone else have a working .sub-file that I can try? It doesn't matter if it is a wrong subtitle. I just want to see if it works. I'm running air video server 2.1.8-beta9r2 on a mac os x 10.6.

I'll test the file that you've posted. It might be a bug in Air Video Server. Note that Air Video Server will ignore the FPS in first line as the FPS is determined from the video file. In some rare cases this could be a problem - Air video server might not be able to determine the correct framerate.

Thanks for the quick response. I've updated to the new build and the transcoding now completes with success. One thing I did notice is that the estimated time is somewhat off, and at the end of the conversion it sat at 0 minutes for considerably longer than expected and I gave up on monitoring it. Not a big deal, though.

Yes, after the conversion is done Air Video needs to mux the video and audio streams together. That is rather hard to estimate though.

Hi there, This has also been happening to me. I find that since I upgraded (to the 2.1.8 beta) I can't get any file to finish conversion. I've experimented with different quality settings, but the result is the same: the file hangs, and the hung file can't even be deleted from the queue (from the server or from the client side). I have to delete the conversion log in the application support folder for Airvideo to get rid of it. Will try the new build and report results.

This is a wonderful app! totally rocks! Just tried this new beta, no hiccups so far...
Just one small minor problem, i noticed air video does not display hidden videos/ folders. Is it a intentional design or could this option be included in the subsequent release?

I seem to be having a problem with one file in particular. The movie plays fine with the live encoding, but when doing offline encoding it errors immediately and creates a ~2kb sized m4v file. I've also tested with 2.1.7 and it seems to work fine in offline conversion, so it's just an error with 2.1.8.

Air Video Server 2.1.8-beta9r2 seems to have broken Air Video on my Windows 7 x64 machine. I was using 2.1.8-beta8, which worked fine until I replaced it with beta9r2. Now AVS no longer shows up in the notification area, although it still appears in Task Manager.

Worse yet, I can no longer connect with Air Video on the iPhone; it just says "Loading" and goes no further.

I tried uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling -- nothing works. I even tried reinstalling the earlier version, but it's dead too.

What happened? And how do I fix it?

kill all AirVideoServer.exe processes
Go to \Local Settings\Application Data\AirVideoServer

delete the conversionStatus2 file.

Thanks - deleting the conversionStatus2 file solved the problem. Perhaps the installer should delete this file? That way, a user could fix a broken program by reinstalling.

Also, for others reading this thread, the location of the file in Windows 7/Vista is C:\Users\{your user name}\AppData\Local\AirVideoServer

I converted a divx file with srt subtitle. The ffmpeg process was eating more and more
memory until my iMac crashed. It won't happen in 2.1.8-beta6, but always happens in
beta8 and beta9. If no subtitle, every thing is fine.

Wow a awesome released. I'd like to thank you for adding the much needed/wanted subtitle support but was dishearted to find that .ass subtitle support one of if not the most popular subtitle format being (depending on the content you watch) wasn't added. Do you plan to add .ass subtitle support in the future? This would truly complete subtitle support. Thank you for your time and talent you put into this you've done a wonderful job with Air Video thus far

Ssa subtitles should be supported, even with "ass" extension. If it doesn't work for you maybe Air Video Server has problem parsing the file. Make sure that it's called exactly as the video file (apart from the extension). If you still can't get it displayed you can post it here as attachment, I will take a look.

Yes, JRE 6u18 breaks Air Video Server. The error will be fixed in next update. Right now the only option is to revert to JRE 6u17.
