Ok, I did what you said, but when I do that a message pops up saying "Communication Error: error occured while communicating with server; timed out"

I think the easiest way to get AirVideo to work over 3G is to

1. set up an account at dyndns.org and connect it with your ip (or with your router, most of them support dyndns and will always deliver the right IP)
2. forward the mentioned TCP port 45631 to your computer
3. type in the dyndns adress in your AirVideo client on the iPhone and boom, you are connected...

what I was surprised about though was that it worked even though I didn't check "Enable access from Internet" ...I guess because of the port forwarding it just reacted as if the request was coming from my wifi within...

anyways, very cool app you guys built there. Thanx!

"Enable Access from Internet" does pretty much what you did by hand. It configures the port forwarding (if your router implements UPnP or NAT-PMP) and it also keeps track of your public IP address (just like dyndns does). There is only one translation in your router. The other translation is in router of your internet provider. And that is the one you can't do anything about. Unfortunately dyndns will not help you here. The problem is that your router does not have public IP address and thus is not accessible from internet. I played my videos over 3G using low/medium resolution and worked awesome with out an buffering... The clarity is great and the app is very sleek....

I was skeptic of buying this until it worked in 3G and see the quality and the amazing support that I received from you guys... I bought it immediately..... I will leave 5 Star rating and comments in the app feedback...

I was using Orblive for so long and I wrote number of emails and board messages requesting them to fix the bugs and update it... But I hardly received any response from them... Irrespective of the time I left a message there was always a reply.... You guys simple rock!!!

It costs less and works much better.... If you guys can add the live streaming of internet channels..... It will be the ultimate... But am very happy with what I have right now....

I have got a similar problem...my router does support UPnP and I enabled it. But it still does not work...my STATUS:
"No UPnP or NAT-PMP compatible device was found. Maybe you need to enable UPnP or NAT-PMP on your router?"

OR:
How can I open the port myself? My router FRITZ!Box

Perhaps my router does also not have public IP address...How can I see this?

is UPnP activated on your router? I found a tutorial on how to activate it on FRITZ!Box: http://jdownloader.org/knowledge/wiki/reconnect/fritz-box-activate-upnp

Also note that not all routers support UPnP equally well. Sometimes you need to log in to your router's web admin interface first from the computer running Air Video Server in order for the router to get detected as UPnP gateway. Hello everybody!

That's what i thought, to use a dynamic dns service to "find" my home pc.
I'm connected trough a usb adapter (hsdpa).
Is there any chance to reach my server? I've downloaded the no-ip client and set everything, but doesn't seem to work..
Is a problem of port forwarding? I've looked for setting on no-ip website, but i couldn't find nothing useful...

Anyway really great app!

I feel accessing the internet with a HSDPA usb key doesn't allow you to be visible...
I've tried "Enable Access from Internet", uncheckng the wifi check, but nothing happens.
There is also a service from no-ip.org ( http://canyouseeme.org/ ) but i get timeout on every port...
Anyway it was just a plus, i'm very happy with the corrent features, watching movies in my bed with my iphone on my belly!

Hardware / Account

Netgear (ADSL2+ / Wireless / Ethernet Router) - main router
Cisco 837 (ADSL / Switch / VPN) - buy off ebay for £20-25, I have ADSL2+ so used this only for VPN
Windows OS - runs Air Video server and file shares
Dyndns.org - Get public IP address for my router (ADSL2+ IP don't really change, this is just in case)

Step 1: Configure Dynamic DNS accounts on Netgear Router
Step 2: On Netgear Router open firewall port to allow IPSEC and forward incoming IPSEC / VPN connections to Cisco 837 Router
Step 3: Configure Cisco 837 VPN and Network settings (this is hardest part)
Step 4: If Firewall is enabled on Windows OS, then makesure you allow incoming connections for Air Video (Windows would of prompted you when you first installed Air Video)

With this setup, you can access any other service that is running on your home network e.g. RDP, Web cameras, etc
