It will work when all these conditions are met:
- Your router has public IP address (meaning your provider didn't put you behind one big NAT).
- Your router has UPnP enabled
- New Air Video client is approved (we have no control over when and if that happens). However the client does not have anything to do with port forwarding. The only difference concerning remote access compared to current version is that the new client will allow you to identify a computer user server pin.

Re:How can I make Air Video work for me from anywhere I am when I'm on 3G. NOT just on wifi??????

Its very simple even manually (cca 30s work), just setup your modem/router, its there something like "port forwarding" or so, put your local ip adress and port 45631. In Air video client put yout external (public) IP of your PC and its works over 3G perfectly. But you will need fast upload speed or reduce quality of the video.

Btw many thanks for this software, its one of the best applications for iPhone (simple/clear/fast/functional). Its like from Apple

Hi,

I think the easiest way to get AirVideo to work over 3G is to

1. set up an account at dyndns.org and connect it with your ip (or with your router, most of them support dyndns and will always deliver the right IP)
2. forward the mentioned TCP port 45631 to your computer
3. type in the dyndns adress in your AirVideo client on the iPhone and boom, you are connected...

what I was surprised about though was that it worked even though I didn't check "Enable access from Internet" ...I guess because of the port forwarding it just reacted as if the request was coming from my wifi within...

anyways, very cool app you guys built there. Thanx!

*edit: I didn't even have to turn off the "WiFi Check" in the iPhone settings...at startup it mentioned it, but it still worked just fine over 3G"

It configures the port forwarding (if your router implements UPnP or NAT-PMP) and it also keeps track of your public IP address (just like dyndns does).
When I press Test connection it says that "air video server instance is NOT accessible from internet" can you please help me with the error?
Looking at the log, your problem is that you are behind a double NAT. Air Video is able to configure port mapping on your router, but your router does not have public IP address. Your router's IP address is 192.168.15.2 - that means it's within another local network and it's not accessible from internet.

If your provider didn't give you public IP address your chances to get Air Video working over internet are pretty slim.

The other translation is in router of your internet provider. And that is the one you can't do anything about. Unfortunately dyndns will not help you here. The problem is that your router does not have public IP address and thus is not accessible from internet. Only thing you can do is to contact your Internet Provider and ask whether you can get a public IP address.

Re:How can I make Air Video work for me from anywhere I am when I'm on 3G. NOT just on wifi??????

Thanks a lot admin for your efforts and patience.. I finally fixed the issue... What you identified was absolutely right that I had 2 NATs but that was cos of my fault where connected the cable modem to my VOIP phone and from the VOIP it came to my wireless router.... I switched the connection from modem to wireless router and then to VOIP, now it works like a charm....

I played my videos over 3G using low/medium resolution and worked awesome with out an buffering... The clarity is great and the app is very sleek....

I was skeptic of buying this until it worked in 3G and see the quality and the amazing support that I received from you guys... I bought it immediately..... I will leave 5 Star rating and comments in the app feedback...

I was using Orblive for so long and I wrote number of emails and board messages requesting them to fix the bugs and update it... But I hardly received any response from them... Irrespective of the time I left a message there was always a reply.... You guys simple rock!!!

It costs less and works much better.... If you guys can add the live streaming of internet channels..... It will be the ultimate... But am very happy with what I have right now....

I greatly appreciate your efforts and please continue the great work...

Re:How can I make Air Video work for me from anywhere I am when I'm on 3G. NOT just on wifi??????

Hi,

is UPnP activated on your router? I found a tutorial on how to activate it on FRITZ!Box: http://jdownloader.org/knowledge/wiki/reconnect/fritz-box-activate-upnp

Also note that not all routers support UPnP equally well. Sometimes you need to log in to your router's web admin interface first from the computer running Air Video Server in order for the router to get detected as UPnP gateway. If the implementation is really bad UPnP may not work at all, but hopefully this is not the case.

Port forwarding setup depends on your router. It's different for every router type. There is no one solution.
How can I make Air Video work for me from anywhere I am when I'm on 3G. NOT just on wifi??????

Hello everybody!

That's what i thought, to use a dynamic dns service to "find" my home pc.
I'm connected trough a usb adapter (hsdpa).
Is there any chance to reach my server? I've downloaded the no-ip client and set everything, but doesn't seem to work..
Is a problem of port forwarding? I've looked for setting on no-ip website, but i couldn't find nothing useful...

Anyway really great app!
Ciao from Italy (that explains my english!)
Stefano

I recently setup Air Video to work with home network when I am travelling. I use Cisco VPN (IPSEC) to connect to home router and then access the Air Video app pointing to local Windows server. I am on O2 network and the streaming works like a charm. This is a secure solution.

Hardware / Account

Netgear (ADSL2+ / Wireless / Ethernet Router) - main router
Cisco 837 (ADSL / Switch / VPN) - buy off ebay for £20-25, I have ADSL2+ so used this only for VPN
Windows OS - runs Air Video server and file shares
Dyndns.org - Get public IP address for my router (ADSL2+ IP don't really change, this is just in case)

Step 1: Configure Dynamic DNS accounts on Netgear Router
Step 2: On Netgear Router open firewall port to allow IPSEC and forward incoming IPSEC / VPN connections to Cisco 837 Router
Step 3: Configure Cisco 837 VPN and Network settings (this is hardest part)
Step 4: If Firewall is enabled on Windows OS, then makesure you allow incoming connections for Air Video (Windows would of prompted you when you first installed Air Video)

With this setup, you can access any other service that is running on your home network e.g. RDP, Web cameras, etc
